Revolutionizing Eyewitness Identification

Increase Eyewitness Accuracy by up to 35% with 3D Interactive Lineups

3D Interactive Lineup (3DIL) is an innovative tool developed by the Applied Memory Lab at the University of Birmingham, in collaboration with Promaps. It’s designed to enhance the accuracy of eyewitness identification by allowing witnesses greater control over how they view suspect images.

Research-Backed Technology

Research has consistently shown that interactive lineups outperform traditional methods, improving memory retrieval and identification accuracy.

How It Works

  • Interactive Control: Witnesses can rotate and view suspect images from multiple angles, mimicking real-life scenarios

  • Pose Reinstatement: The tool recreates the original perspective from which the witness saw the perpetrator.

  • Proven Accuracy: This approach has been shown to significantly improve identification accuracy compared to traditional methods.

Why It Matters

Traditional lineups that rely on static photos limit witnesses to viewing faces from just one angle, often resulting in identification errors. 3DIL addresses this limitation by allowing witnesses to rotate and explore suspect images from various angles. This dynamic interaction helps witnesses recreate the angle at which they originally saw the suspect, significantly enhancing their ability to make accurate identifications.

Our Commitment

We work closely with law enforcement agencies and continually conduct research to refine 3DIL, ensuring it drives fairer and more reliable outcomes in the justice system.
